The election of Donald Trump in 2016 was an event that hoisted the term “post-truth” to the word rank of the year, elected by Oxford Dictionaries. Since then, terms like “fake news” and “alternative facts” have permeated not only political jargon around the world but also personal communications on social networks and on sites that spread misinformation. How did we get to this scenario? How has disinformation hindered actions to combat the Covid-19 pandemic? How can science journalists help qualify the pandemic debate in the fight against disinformation?
