About Alberto Cairo

Alberto Cairo is the Knight Chair in Visual Journalism at the School of Communication of the University of Miami (UM). He is also the director of the visualization program at UM’s Institute for Data Science and Computing. Cairo led graphics award-winning teams at news publications in Spain and Brazil for more than a decade before becoming a professor. Cairo is the author of ‘How Charts Lie: Getting Smarter About Visual Information’ (2019), ‘The Truthful Art’ (2016) and ‘The Functional Art’ (2013). He currently consults with companies like Google and with several branches of the U.S. Government, and has provided visualization training to the European Union, Eurostat, the CDC, the Army National Guard, and many others.
